Bell MTS Wi-Fi Hotspot FAQs

Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) allows you to take your Internet access outside of your home and into public locations and businesses throughout Manitoba. All you need is a Wi-Fi enabled device, such as a laptop or PDA and a Bell MTS High Speed Internet or Bell MTS Mobility account, or a valid credit card to access your email and browse the Internet on the go.

How to use Bell MTS Wi-Fi Hotspots

Why does Bell MTS use the Wi-Fi 802.11g wireless standard?

The 802.11g Wi-Fi standard is so widely accepted that it has become the industry standard for wireless networking. IEEE 802.11g is an established and mature standard. In fact, many laptop manufacturers actually include Wi-Fi cards in standard configurations.

Do I need to load software or change settings on my laptop?

There is no need to load additional software as long as you have an operating system, web browser, 802.11g (or faster) wireless card. However, you may need to adjust your hardware settings.

Can I connect to my company's network?

If your company allows remote access then you will be able to connect to the network. As an extra security measure, many companies use VPNs. The Wi-Fi Hotspot network is generally compatible with this software.

I am a Bell MTS HSI customer, how do I login at a Bell MTS Wi-Fi Hotspot?
  1. Open your laptop or PDA. Connect to the Bell MTS Wi-Fi Hotspot Wireless Network
  2. Open your browser – you will be re-directed to the login page.
  3. In the "Login ID/Email Address" field type your full Bell MTS login ID (example: user@res1.mts.net). If you don't know the Bell MTS login ID used for your Internet connection please call us at 204-225-5687.
  4. In the "Password" field type your Bell MTS password.
  5. Click on the "Login" button and you should be surfing the web.
I am at a hotspot and have an Access Code.
  1. Open your laptop or PDA. Connect to the Bell MTS Wi-Fi Hotspot Wireless Network.
  2. Open your browser – you will be re-directed to the login page.
  3. Enter the code in the Access Code field.
  4. Click on Login.
  5. Surf the Web.

How do I Sign up and How will I be Billed?

Why is Wi-Fi charged based on time when all of your other data services are billed on data used?

The industry standard is to charge based on time to simplify the process because customer usage is primarily for a short period of time. Aligning with the industry standard means simple and easy roaming access with other Wi-Fi providers.

I am at a hotspot and want to use my credit card.
  1. Open your laptop or PDA. Connect to the Bell MTS Wi-Fi Hotspot Wireless Network.
  2. Open your browser – you will be re-directed to the login page.
  3. Click on Purchase Time.
  4. Create a new User id and Password. Once created, any banked time remains for future use.
  5. Purchase Time.
  6. Surf the Web.
How do I sign up for an Bell MTS Wi-Fi Plan?

For current Bell MTS High Speed Internet customers please click on the "order now" button, and follow the instructions to add the Unlimited Wi-Fi plan to your Internet account.

For current Bell MTS Wireless customers please call Bell MTS at 204-225-5687 or dial 611 (*611) from your Bell MTS Wireless cell phone to add the Unlimited Wi-Fi plan to your Wireless account.
