Understanding Data Passes

What are Data Passes?

Data Passes give you the flexibility and control to choose how much Data you would like to use on any given trip. The options will allow you to manage your spending by selecting the Data Pass that’s right for you, based on the amount of Data required or the amount of money you wish to spend.

You will not be able to use Data outside of Canada unless you have purchased one of these passes or are using Wi-Fi.

How do I purchase a Data Pass?

When travelling outside of Canada, you will be given options to purchase Data Roaming Passes on your wireless device when you choose to start a data session. Simply turn your phone on and start a browser session from your phone. Once the browser session starts your will be redirected to a page where you will be given data pass options to purchase. You will not incur data charges while viewing these pages.

  1. Click the Buy button next to the option you selected.
  2. Click the Add to my bill now button to confirm your purchase.

You will receive a "Your order has been completed." confirmation message as well as a confirmation text message.

Once you have completed your purchase(s), your data services will begin to work on your phone. You will be notified via a free text message when you have used 50% and 100% of your data pass. Your purchase(s) will appear on your next wireless bill.

How do I pre-purchase a Data Pass?

To purchase a Data Roaming Pass prior to your travels, please visit bellmts.ca/travelpass from the wireless device you wish to use Data on while travelling and ensure you are not connected to a Wi-Fi network. You will be redirected to a page where you will be given data pass options to pre-purchase.

  1. Click the Buy button next to the option you selected.
  2. Click the Add to my bill now button to confirm your purchase.

You will receive a “Your order has been completed.” confirmation message as well as a confirmation text message.

Pre-purchased Data Passes will be activated the first time you start a Data session on your device when travelling outside of Canada. Your pre-purchase will appear on your next wireless bill.

Once the first data session when travelling has started, your pass will be in effect. You will be notified via a free text message when you have used 50% and 100% of your data pass.

Data Passes can also be purchased in advance by calling Bell MTS or visiting a Bell MTS store.

What will show up on my bill?

You will see the name of the Data Pass you purchased in the “Other Charges and Credits” section of your next Wireless bill.

Can I buy more than one Data Pass?

Yes, multiple Data Passes can be purchased by visiting bellmts.ca/travelpass on your Wireless device. If you have purchased more than one Data Pass, the next Data Pass will activate after the previous one is used up or has expired.

Do Data Passes Expire?

All Data Passes have time-limited duration which is shown when you are presented with the Data Pass options on your Wireless device. Most Data Passes are valid for 30 days from activation.

Data Passes can also be purchased in advance by visiting bellmts.ca/travelpass from the wireless device you wish to use Data on while travelling, calling Bell MTS or visiting an Bell MTS Store location. Pre-purchased Data Passes will be activated the first time you start a Data session on your device when travelling outside of Canada.

Pre-purchased Data Passes will show up on your next Wireless bill.

What if I don't want to purchase a Data Pass?

You will not be able to use Data unless you have purchased a Data Pass or are using Wi-Fi. If you do not want to purchase a Data Pass you can close your browser or turn off your roaming Data.
