Legacy battery maintenance

Note:

Important information regarding your Home phone service.

This is a reminder that your Home phone service, including access to 9-1-1 emergency services, will not operate during a power outage. Note that services that communicate using a phone line, such as a monitored medical device or a home security system (including some monitored by Bell) may also not work.

If you wish to have access to a phone service (including 9-1-1) in the event of a power outage, we recommend that you purchase a compatible backup battery solution for your modem from a third party retailer or keep a working mobile phone available. For more information, visit bellmts.ca/batterybackup.

Bell MTS customers are responsible for monitoring and replacing their own battery within this backup system as required.

If you do not have Bell MTS Home Phone service, you do not need to maintain your battery backup system. Bell MTS TV and Internet services as well as cordless home phones will not work in the event of a power outage, regardless of the status of your battery backup system.

  1. Locate the Battery Backup System/Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Unit in your home. This is generally in the basement with the other utility connections.
  2. Please choose the UPS that resembles your unit for further instructions:

Note:

If your UPS does not look like one of these two devices, please Contact Us.

Bell MTS Fibe Network - Battery Backup FAQs

What is the Fibe Battery Backup System/Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit?

The Bell MTS Fibe Network supplies huge amounts of bandwidth into the home providing customers with higher quality Home Phone, High Speed Internet and TV* services, now and in the future. Your home will be connected to the Bell MTS Fibe Network, through a device called an Optical Network Terminal (ONT). The ONT uses a battery backup system, called an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), to ensure that Bell MTS Home Phone service continues to work in the event of a power outage. The UPS contains a valve regulated lead-acid battery**.

If you have only TV and/or Internet, or use only cordless home phones, you do not need to maintain your battery backup system. Please rest assured that your wireless phone will continue to work during a power outage.

If you have Bell MTS Home Phone service, with at least one corded phone in your home, you may want to monitor your battery backup system and replace your battery as required, to ensure that your Home Phone service continues to work in the event of a power outage.
